NJ Man Who Shot Federal Agent Learns Fate In Court

PARSIPPANY, NJ — A Parsippany man has been sentenced nearly a year after a shootout with federal agents left him and an agent shot.

Maloy Amador, 44, was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty to a four-count information charging him with attempted murder of a federal officer, discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances (CDS).

On Aug. 13, 2025, local police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted a court-ordered search of Amador's home on Kingston Road.

When authorities entered the home, Amador fired shots at them, and a shootout ensued.

During the firefight, Amador was shot in the arm, and a federal agent took a bullet to their ballistic vest. Additionally, a bullet had struck an agent's agency‑issued electronic control device, leaving a hole in the device.

Amador later surrendered and was arrested. A search of his home yielded 18 guns and roughly four pounds of narcotics.

The situation ended up shutting down several streets in Parsippany for hours, with many residents unable to leave their homes.

Following a guilty plea, Amador was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

“Attempting to murder a federal law enforcement officer is among the most serious crimes our office prosecutes," said U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer. "The men and women of federal law enforcement put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect our communities, and this case—where the defendant fired a gun at a federal officer—is a stark reminder of just how dangerous and life-threatening that mission can be."
