Par Hills Grad, Semi-Pro Hockey Player Dies at 52

David Schappell skated for three different schools.

David Schappell spent most of his life in Parsippany, and much of that time on the ice.

The automotive adjuster and Parsippany Hills High School graduate died at the age of 52, according to his obituary.

Schappell was born in Glen Ridge but lived most of his life in Parsippany. After high school he received his associate’s degree in law enforcement from County College of Morris, then his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Rogers Williams College. He played hockey at each school he attended, as well as the semi-professional Newark Sabers.

Schappell is survived by his parents, a brother, daughter, and ex-wife.

A funeral service will be held 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Parsippany-Troy Hills Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. the same night. Memorial donations may be made to the Parsippany PBA Local 131, P.O. Box 16, Parsippany, NJ 07054.
