Parsippany Boys Fall to Lakeland

Ice hockey struggles vs. Sparta.

Despite a combined 27 points from Lionel Chambers and Leonard Lee, the Parsippany boys basketball team remains in search of win No. 1 this season, following Tuesday night's 65-56 loss to Lakeland.

Trouble struck early in Parsippany as the Red Hawks' struggles offensively saw them heading into the second quarter trailing by 12-points.

The slow start didn't deter head coach Byron Hamby’s Parsippany group, as the 'Hawks outscored Lakeland, 52-49, in the final three quarters, including a strong 17-16 fourth quarter finish.

But Chambers' 22 points and Lee's 12 points that helped lead the late game surge, proved too little too late, as Parsippany succumb to its sixth straight loss.

Max Berns finished with nine points and Sagar Patel added eight points for Parsippany. Thomas Bede finished with 24 points for Lakeland, who improve to 4-3 with the win.

Hockey Falls

The Parsippany ice hockey team saw its record fall to 3-7 on the season with Tuesday’s 13-3 loss to Sparta at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm.

Eddie Ziegenfuss, Nick Bartholomew and Gage Malinowski each scored three goals for Sparta (6-5), who jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period and led 9-2 heading into the third period.

Parsippany’s Dan Bellafiore and Dakota Duarte each scored in the second period –both goals coming within a minute of each other- and Bryan Varsalone added a third goal in the final fram.

The Spartan offensive attack would prove too tough to overcome though, as Sparta scored four goals in both the second and third period on the way to a lopsided win.
