Parsippany Cops Arrest Man Wanted by US Army for Desertion
New York resident was stopped for unregistered vehicle, police report.

A Parsippany police officer conducting a routine traffic stop found a warrant for the driver who allegedly deserted his post in the United States Army, authorities said.
Officer Paul Levi was conducting vehicle registration searches and located a 2007 Nissan that was unregistered, police said. Levi stopped the driver and looked into the motorist’s background, police said.
Levi found the driver, Ray Pollard, 41, of Kingston, New York to have an outsanding warrant from the United States Army for desertion, police said.

Pollard was arrested and placed in the Morris County Correctional Facility where the United States Army Military Police were notified, police said. Pollard was issued a motor vehicle summons for an unregistered vehicle.
Sentences for desertion range from dishonorable discharge from the military with as little as six months in prison up to the death sentence if the accused abandoned his post during combat.
