Parsippany Council VP Patel Named On NJ Insider’s “Rising Generations” List

The list "recognizes and celebrates the younger, aspiring movers and shakers in their communities."

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The youngest member on the council in Parsippany history, and one of the youngest elected officials in the state, has been recognized in a prestigious NJ Insider list.

Diya Patel, who was sworn into the Parsippany Council at the age of 23, has been featured in NJ Insider’s latest “Rising Generations” list.

The publication’s eighth list highlights elected officials and community leaders, celebrating “the younger, aspiring movers and shakers in their communities, be they local, county, or state.”

“In purple Parsippany, where control has see-sawed between Democrats and Republicans over the past 10 years, Patel at age 23 won a council seat in November 2025 in Morris County’s largest municipality, becoming one of the youngest elected officials in the state,” the publication reads.

The young Democrat was elected alongside new Mayor Pulkit Desai, the township’s first Indian mayor, and fellow councilperson Matt Kavanagh.

Since taking office, Patel has been extremely active in her role, participating in community events, being vocal and productive during council meetings, and being transparent with her constituents with her “Diya’s Debrief” social media posts, during which she gives rundowns of council meeting actions.

“Honored to be recognized in InsiderNJ’s 8th Edition Rising Generations list. Public service has given me the opportunity to advocate for my community, and this recognition is a reminder of the responsibility that comes with that privilege,” Patel said. “Every day, I’m more excited to continue my work to achieve a more accessible, affordable, and representative future for Parsippany. Thank you, InsiderNJ, for the recognition.”

A law student, Patel has also worked on several political campaigns, including that of Mikie Sherrill’s Congressional run in 2018.

Some other familiar names making the list include Assemblywoman Marisa Sweeney, Senator Andy Kim, and the NJ Department of State’s Max Blum.
