Parsippany Firm Celebrates 15 Years of Advancing Medical Technology
Zimmer Inc.'s Pomeroy Road plant has made easier lives possible for orthopedic patients around the world.
Zimmer Inc., a global health technology company, is marking the 15th anniversary of its Parsippany factory on Pomeroy Road. The Indiana-based firm held a celebration at the plant on Wednesday.
Zimmer's Parsippany plant is the company's sole manufacturing site for its trademarked Trabecular Metal Material, a substance that offers hope to people suffering pain from a wide range of orthopedic problems.
What makes the plant and this technology so important, according to Zimmer Reconstructive President Jeff McCaulley, is that the material created here over the past decade and a half has restored mobility and alleviated pain for millions of people around the world.

“Trabecular Metal Technology is among the greatest innovations in orthopedics in the last 15 years," said McCaulley. "No other porous metal material so closely resembles the structure, function and physiology of trabecular bone. That is why Trabecular Metal Technology continues to set the standard in the industry.”
He said the material porosity helps living tissue and bone grow onto and into joint replacements and implants, which makes life a lot easier for people who obtain knee, hip and shoulder replacements, spinal implants and similar treatments.

And it's made right here in Parsippany.
Since its introduction in 1997, Trabecular Metal Technology has been used in more than 800,000 surgeries worldwide, according to a Zimmer statement. The technology has been featured in more than 240 clinical publications, and many surgeons have adopted it for use with their patients.
Zimmer’s Parsippany facility operates 24 hours a day and employes 230 people. In addition to manufacturing, it hosts a Zimmer Institute training center that provides medical education and training to more than 600 surgeons and dental clinicians each year.
