Parsippany Gets 6 Inches Of Rain, Major Roads Flooded

Nearly 6 inches of rain fell in the Parsippany area during the storm. The Route 46 East ramp to Parsippany remains closed.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany received nearly a half-foot of rain and continues to deal with flooding into Thursday morning following Ida's passage. The town also continues to deal with some power outages and hampered public transit.

Here are the road conditions as of 8:50 a.m. Thursday, according to Parsippany police:

  • New Road is closed in both directions between Wawa and Route 46 East. This includes the ramp from Route 46 E to New Road.
  • Route 46 West between 390 Route 46 and 690 Route 46 (Longhorn Steakhouse) has partially reopened.
  • Exit 47 from Route 80 West has reopened.
  • The bridge on Vail Road that goes into Montville is closed.
  • The intersection of Henion Road and Park Road is closed due to a fallen tree.

The Parsippany area received 5.54 inches of rain from the storm, causing some local bodies of water to overflow. The Rockaway River at Boonton saw minor flooding, according to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.

The Pompton River, which stretches into Morris County, is under a flood warning until 6 p.m. Saturday. Forecasts predict major flooding for the next few days.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported 8,120 outages in Morris County as of 9 a.m. Thursday, including 172 in Parsippany.

New Jersey Transit suspended all rail service except the Atlantic City Line. NJ Transit will pause service until it completes a full assessment of the damages and necessary inspections. Systemwide cross-honoring will be in effect.

Luckily for Parsippany, the forecast appears clear for the near future. Here's the forecast from the National Weather Service as of 9 a.m. Thursday:

  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 73. North wind around 10 mph.
  • Thursday night: Clear, with a low around 54. Northwest wind around 5 mph.
  • Friday: Sunny, with a high near 71. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 54. Northwest wind around 5 mph.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 76. West wind around 5 mph.
