Parsippany I-80 Exit Ramp To Close: See Details

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Drivers in Parsippany-Troy Hills will face an overnight detour Friday, as the I-80 eastbound Express Exit 47A ramp to I-280 eastbound and I-80 eastbound Local is scheduled to close for concrete deck repairs.

The closure is set to begin at 10 p.m. Friday, June 5, and continue until 5 a.m. Saturday, June 6, on the I-80 eastbound bridge over Route 46 in Morris County.

According to the project notice, the work will also close the left lane on I-80 eastbound Local at Milepost 46.3, just before the I-80 eastbound Local ramp to I-280 eastbound. The I-80 eastbound Local Exit 47A ramp to I-280 eastbound will remain open during construction.

The closure affects the express lanes at Exit 47A. Motorists on I-80 eastbound express who want to reach I-280 eastbound will be directed to take Exit 45 to Lake Hiawatha/Whippany, which is before Exit 47A. That detour puts drivers onto the I-80 eastbound local lanes, where they can then take Exit 47A to I-280, The Oranges, and Newark.

Drivers on I-80 eastbound express who would normally use Exit 47A to reach I-80 eastbound local will also be sent to Exit 45 to Lake Hiawatha/Whippany. That route also shifts motorists onto the I-80 eastbound local lanes before they continue east.

According to the notice, the repairs are part of a $12.3 million state-funded maintenance project covering concrete structures at various locations in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren counties. The document says the repairs are intended to improve rideability and safety while prolonging the service life of the structure.

The overnight schedule is limited to one night, according to the NJ DOT. Drivers traveling through Parsippany late Friday night and early Saturday morning may want to allow extra time and follow posted detours around Exit 47A. The I-80 eastbound Local Exit 47A ramp to I-280 eastbound is scheduled to remain open while the express ramp work is underway.
