Man Assaults NJ Cop, Tries Grabbing His Gun: Police

Bayonne police pepper-sprayed the man, and two officers sustained hand and arm injuries, according to authorities.

BAYONNE, NJ — A Parsippany man lunged himself at a Bayonne police officer and tried to take his gun Tuesday, according to authorities. After getting pepper-sprayed and subdued, Sean M. Brennan was charged with disarming an officer, aggravated assault on law enforcement and resisting arrest, police said.

Police in the Hudson County city responded to a business on Hook Road at 2:07 p.m. Tuesday after Brennan refused to leave the premises, authorities said. They encountered the 44-year-old sitting in an office and playing loud music on his phone, according to police.

As officers advised Brennan to leave, he became "extremely irate," stood up and lunged himself at an officer's gun in the holster to try and take it, police said. A second officer took Brennan down on a nearby couch, but the man kept trying to take the first cop's firearm, authorities said.
