Morris Co. Man Sentenced In Deadly Wrong-Way I-80 Crash

PARSIPPANY, NJ — A Parsippany man who was found responsible in a drunk-driving crash that left a man dead has learned his fate in court, officials said.

On Friday, Victor Peters, 46, was sentenced to 16 years in prison after he was found guilty of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree vehicular homicide over the summer.

The sentencing comes more than a year after the fatal I-80 crash.

The crash happened early on the morning of Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, on I-80 in Rockaway Township. Investigators said Peters was driving east in the westbound lanes and collided head-on with a Ford pickup truck going west.

The driver of the truck, 31-year-old Destinn McKnight of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peters, who was driving a Mercedes SUV, "exhibited signs of being under the influence at the scene," officials said. First responders took him to Morristown Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Peters now must serve 85 percent of his sentence, nearly 14 years, before he is eligible for parole.
