Parsippany Opens 2 Cooling Centers During Extreme Heat

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Not so breaking news: it's hot outside. With the extreme heat expected to stick around, the township will allow residents to use two facilities as cooling centers.

The public can use the Parsippany Community Center (1130 Knoll Rd., Lake Hiawatha) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Call 973-263-7163.

The Parsippany Library's Main Branch is also available at 449 Halsey Rd. The library will operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday and then 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call 973-887-5150.

The National Weather Service included Parsippany in a heat advisory, which will last until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters expect the heat index to rise to 104 degrees.

• Monday afternoon: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 101. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 5 mph.
• Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Sunny, with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 104. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Tuesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Sunny, with a high near 96. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Thursday: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 88. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
• Thursday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then showers likely. Low around 67. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
