PARSIPPANY, NJ - The Parsippany Police have had multiple reports of a paving scam perpetrated on residents and are warning people to be on the lookout.
According to authorities, each victim paid the suspected scammers over $1,000. The suspected scammers approached each homeowner separately and promised to make repairs to their driveways, however they were never completed, leaving the victims with construction debris on their property and partially repaired driveways, police said.

- They should have a valid soliciting permit from the township if they are soliciting business door to door.
- Avoid companies that attempt to pressure you into making an immediate decision and make you pay cash so you cannot back out.
- Are they trying to use "leftover material" from another job? Most professional companies know exactly how much material is needed and do not have any leftover.
- Be cautious of out of state contractors appearing at your door attempting to do work for you. Take down the company name and do your own research online to make sure it is legitimate and check references in the area if possible.
- Avoid paying the entire cost of the project prior to the work being completed.
