NJ Tax Collector Found Dead In Town Hall, Cops Say

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The longtime tax collector for Parsippany, Terence Whalen, was found dead in town hall this week, according to police.

On Wednesday, around 10:30 a.m., a custodian called police to report an unresponsive man at Parsippany's Town Hall, located at 1001 Parsippany Boulevard.

Authorities arrived to find Whalen, 59, unresponsive in an office. He was later pronounced dead.

Details on his death were not immediately available, but police said no foul play is suspected as of Thursday afternoon.

Whalen has worked as Parsippany's tax collector since 2008, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was in charge of the township's Division of Collections, dealing with property tax bills, water and sewer billing, delinquent tax collections, and more.

Whalen attended Morris Catholic High School before graduating from William Paterson University in Wayne.
