PHS Hosts 'Meet the Coaches' Night
Incoming freshmen get a chance to speak with coaches about the upcoming season.
On Wednesday, Parsippany High School held its “Meet the Coaches” night at PHS, an event to give incoming freshman athletes a chance to meet and get acquainted with some of their soon-to-be-coaches.
Parsippany High Athletic Director Richard Fonti kicked off the event by speaking with the students and some parents in the school auditorium, giving them an idea of what to expect over the next four years of their athletic lives.
But the conversation wasn’t limited to just athletics, as Fonti alerted the students to how their actions, both on and off the field, will have an impact on their athletic endeavors.

“This is the first time that I’ve done it [at PHS],” Fonti said after the event. “The ones that I’ve been associated with at other schools have always been done in September and it was for the whole school. I think this is a much better idea. This is eighth graders out there, without the fear of being around the upper classmen. It’s a great day to get to know the coaches. And how often do you get to speak with varsity coaches as a freshman.”
With a sizable turnout, students had the chance to speak with coaches from every sport offered at PHS, sans Parsippany baseball coach Ken Dobkin who was attending the NJSCA Senior All Star Classic Baseball Game, and the yet to be named PHS hockey coach.

“It’s much more attended than I thought it would be,” Fonti said. “It was a good night overall.”
