Recreational Weed Near Parsippany: Closest Places to Buy Thursday

PARSIPPANY, NJ — While this may be a happy 4/20 for all who celebrate, the real changes in New Jersey's cannabis market begin Thursday. That's when 13 dispensaries, including some within driving distance of Parsippany, can begin selling weed to adults for recreational purposes.

Parsippany won't get a dispensary for the time being. The Township Council voted last July to allow limited cannabis wholesale and distribution establishments but to continue prohibiting dispensaries.

Council members expressed openness to potentially allowing more types of cannabis businesses in the future. But New Jersey gave cities and towns an Aug. 22 deadline to prohibit certain types of weed businesses before a five-year window in which they can't enact further bans. Those in Parsippany eager to buy some weed can find a few dispensaries Thursday within drivable range. The closest that can offer recreational cannabis include Apothecarium in Maplewood, RISE Paterson and RISE Bloomfield.

Recreational consumers can buy up to 1 ounce of dried flower; up to 5 grams of concentrates, resins or oils; or as many as 10 100 milligram packages of ingestible items in a single transaction.

And don't forget: customers must be at least 21, driving while high is illegal and so is crossing state lines with weed.
