IN SHORT
Parsippany’s Clayton Cerrato out-pitched Brandon Katzenberger, who had six strikeouts, and received plenty of run support thanks to teammate Matt Zolla's four RBIs.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Clayton Cerrato—Cerrato pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only four hits and striking out 12. At the plate, Cerrato went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and one run scored.
PLAY OF THE GAME
In the second inning with Viking runners on first and third, Parsippany catcher Pat Merrill faked a full throw to second baseman Phil Tomaro. Tomaro had moved onto the infield grass to catch the shortened throw and gunned it back to Merrill. Fooled by the throw, Par Hills runner Kyle Baxter bolted for home where he was met by Merrill, the ball and the third out of the inning. The crowd erupted as the the Red Hawks stormed off the field.
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Matt Zolla (Parsippany) went 3-for-3, including a first-inning, two-out double that drove in two runs. Zolla had four RBIs on the day.
Kyle Baxter (Parsippany Hills) accounted for half of the Vikings' total hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and a single.
THEY SAID IT
"We started the Mayor’s Cup five or six years ago and we have never won it. This is the first time, and I am so happy for these seniors. They showed up to play today and it was big for them.”—Parsippany Head coach Ken Dobkin
