Rockaway Superintendent Announces Resignation
Dr. Greg McGann is resigning after intense controversy over the suicide of student Mallory Grossman.

ROCKAWAY, NJ — Following a lawsuit accusing the district of ignoring bullying that led to a pre-teen's suicide, Rockaway Township superintendent Dr. Greg McGann has announced his resignation, effective July 1.
"It is with mixed emotions that I write this[...] I will not be seeking another contract with the district and submitting my letter of resignation effective July 1, 2018," McGann wrote in a letter posted online. McGann worked for the district for two years.
The search for a new superintendent will begin this month.

The district and McGann have faced intense backlash after Mallory Grossman, a 12-year-old in the district, killed herself in June 2017 following what her mother has said was unrelenting bullying. The family is currently suing the school, saying they failed to act appropriately.
The district has called claims they failed to act "categorically false." The school board has mostly avoided commenting on the lawsuit, but issued a statement in August "correcting misinformation," they said.

"As this case is formally adjudicated, the District and its legal counsel are confident the public will recognize and appreciate its thoughtful and purposeful actions. Further, our counsel believes the actions of others in this case will also be viewed quite differently from that which is presently portrayed," they wrote in the letter.
