Rt. 280 East Closed After Beer Truck Overturns

Breaking: Pour one out for your evening commute. All eastbound lanes of Route 280 are closed.

HANOVER, NJ — It's Friday afternoon, and some of you are probably looking forward to getting home and kicking off the weekend with a beer. Unfortunately, some misplaced brews could slow down your trip home.

A tractor trailer carrying beer overturned on Route 280 east this morning, spilling bottles across the highway. The accident happened around 10 a.m. at milepost 3.2 in Hanover Township, State Police said. No one was seriously injured.

While cleaning up after one post-work beer is no big deal, cleaning up after thousands of beer is. The eastbound lanes remain closed as crews work to clean up the broken bottles and guard rail. All traffic is being diverted off Exit 1.

Anyone planning to take Route 280 should find an alternate route, State Police advised.

Of course, people quickly made jokes about the crash, and lament the loss of the beer on the State Police's Facebook page.

"There are quite a few unbroken bottles that could be taken back to the barracks for the 'evidence' refrigerator," one Facebook user wrote.
