NJ Weather Forecast: Snow Saturday Afternoon

A winter weather advisory has been expanded to include North Jersey, and forecasters have adjusted snowfall predictions.

A winter weather advisory has been expanded to include North Jersey, and forecasters have adjusted snowfall predictions to three to four inches across most of the state. Some areas near the shore could still see as much as six inches by the time the storm passes.

According to the most recent information released by the National Weather Service, there has been a delay with the start of snowfall along and west of I-95, which could result in lower snowfall totals.

But forecasters have "high confidence" today's snow will accumulate enough to cause travel impacts. While the snow had already begun Saturday morning in many areas, the bulk of it is expected to fall this afternoon. The area expected to get the highest accumulations is south of I-195 and east of the I-95 corridor, the NWS said.

Also, a speed restriction is in effect on the Garden State Parkway in both directions from north of exit 100B in Tinton Falls to Exit 143A in Irvington, and south of Exit 63 in Stafford to north of Exit 90 in Brick. The speed has been reduced to 45 mph. due to salting operations.

Travelers using Newark and Philadelphia airports are urged to contact their carriers prior to arrival to check on possible delays.

Philadelphia airport is already reporting some delays and cancelations.

Once the snow stops, expect the frigid temperatures to linger. It will be very cold tonight, causing remaining snow or water on untreated roads, driveways, and sidewalks to re-freeze, the NWS said.
