PARSIPPANY, NJ - Last week an adventurous sheep escaped a transport truck on Route 80 East and was saved from becoming road kill by several passing motorists.

Last Tuesday morning, Parsippany Animal Control responded to a residence in Montville to pick up a sheep that escaped a transport truck on Route 80 East, according to Parsippany Sergeant Brian Conover.

After escaping the truck and wandering around the thoroughfare, passing motorists stopped and worked together to get the sheep into the Montville resident’s vehicle, police said.

After the sheep was placed inside her vehicle, she drove home and called the New Jersey State Police to report the incident. The uninjured sheep was at the Parsippany Animal Control Shelter for a short period of time and then was given to an animal sanctuary.

"We would like to thank the public for offering to adopt the sheep, and remind everyone that our kennel also has multiple cats and a dog available for adoption," Conover said.
