Sherrill, DeGroot Set To Debate: How To Get Your Questions Answered

Congressional candidates For New Jersey's 11th District are set for several forums before midterm elections.

MADISON, NJ — Candidates for the House seat in New Jersey's 11th Congressional District will participate in several forums before midterm elections. In one of the events ahead of Nov. 8's general elections, voters now have the chance to ask the candidates questions.

U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, Republican challenger Paul DeGroot and Libertarian candidate Joseph Biasco will participate in a debate led by the League of Women Voters. The event takes place at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Drew University (36 Madison Ave., Madison). The League's Morristown Area chapter will livestream the event on its YouTube channel, where the public can also view it afterward.

The community can submit questions for candidates by 6 p.m. Oct. 21 via this Google form.

"Questions, submitted on cards, will also be taken from the audience attending the forum," the League said in a news release. "Questions are screened by the League and co-sponsors for relevance to the position being sought. Multiple questions on one topic may be consolidated. Not every question may be asked due to time constraints."

Organizations cohosting the debate also include the Drew University Center for Civic Engagement, the Montclair and Morris County branches of the NAACP, the New Jersey Hills Media Group, and the Morris County Chamber of Commerce.

Sherrill, the Democratic incumbent, also announced two other debates and forums:

  • Oct. 23: New Jersey Globe Debate
  • Oct. 26: Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ Candidate Forum

The recently redrawn 11th District includes the following municipalities:

  • Essex – Belleville, Bloomfield, Cedar Grove, Fairfield, Glen Ridge, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Montclair (part), North Caldwell, Nutley, Roseland, South Orange, West Caldwell.
  • Morris – Boonton, Boonton Township, Butler, Chatham, Chatham Township, Denville, Dover, East Hanover, Florham Park, Hanover, Harding, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Madison, Mendham Township (part), Montville, Morris Plains, Morris Township, Morristown Town, Mountain Lakes, Parsippany-Troy Hills, Pequannock, Randolph, Riverdale, Rockaway, Rockaway Township, Victory Gardens.
  • Passaic – Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne (part), Woodland Park.

According to a statewide summary released on Sept. 1, there were 598,927 registered voters in the 11th district, including 220,435 Democrats, 159,038 Republicans, 1,741 Libertarians and 214,258 voters not affiliated with any party.
