
LAKE HOPATCONG, NJ — A man was killed over the weekend when his snowmobile hit a tree on Lake Hopatcong, Jefferson Township Police said.
Brian Petronaci, 39, from Hopatcong Boro, was driving his snowmobile on the frozen lake near Liffy Island, across from the Lake Forest Yacht Club late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Police said Petronaci struck a rock, which caused him to crash into some trees.
He was pronounced dead at the scene around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, about an hour after police began searching for him.

Jefferson Township Police, Fire Department #2 and Township OEM were assisted by the Hopatcong Boro Police, Jefferson Township Fire Dept. Company #2, Jefferson Rescue Squad, Jefferson Township OEM, Morris County Office of the Medical Examiner, and Morris County Sheriff’s Office CIS.
