St. Gregory's Kicks Off 2013 Community Garden

St. Gregory's Episcopal Churchis once again open to area residents wishing to grow their own produce this summer.

Capacity has been expanded this year to accommodate demand. All plots are marked off and ready to be tilled and planted; they measure 10 feet by 10 feet in raised beds. Watering is facilitated by environmentally friendly passive water collection methods—no hoses are used—and is done by hand. Organic fertilizers are also encouraged.

St. Gregory's will supply free, additional top soil to supplement the fertility of garden plots.

Participants will be responsible for their own organic fertilizers, borders and plants. The church does provide gardening tools, but participants are welcome to bring their own.

There is no cost to take part in this year's community garden program, but the church asks that a donation of fresh produce be made to area food programs and deserving senior citizens. St. Gregory's will ensure that these donations are delivered.

Garden hours will be from dawn to dusk. 

Returning gardeners will have priority to claim their plots from last year until April 1. Otherwise space is being assigned on a first come, first grow basis. Beginning gardeners are welcome. All plots still unclaimed after May 12 will be devoted to growing food by St. Gregory’s for participating local food banks.
