PARSIPPANY, NJ — Facing the pandemic, Andrew Miller's final years with the Parsippany Police Department may have been some of the most unique of his career. But with the police chief retiring Thursday, the township looked back fondly at his 30 years with the agency.

Miller joined the police department in August 1991. He served as a sergeant and lieutenant in the Patrol Division, as sergeant in the Special Enforcement Unit in the Investigative Division, as lieutenant for Internal Affairs and as the Investigative Division commander.

"It has been a privilege working with Andrew Miller over these past few years," said Mayor Michael Soriano. "His dedication, experience and education made him an outstanding choice for Chief of Police. His steadfast leadership — not just day in and day out, but through the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic — was a model for civil service in the face of great challenges."

"From the community policing programs he worked to enhance, to the township’s state-of-the-art communication system, to the body-cam initiative he helped implement, he’s always had his sights set on improving our police department with a calm and steady hand," Soriano said. "As the country grappled with civic unrest, and social division, Chief Miller and the Parsippany Police Department worked to maintain safety, and support the community by any means available."
