Tesla Opening Supercharger Station In Parsippany

An exact opening date hasn't been announced, but it's coming soon.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Electric car maker Tesla has plans to open a supercharger station in the parking lot of a local Wawa.

The timing of the opening hasn't been announced yet, but the company expects it to open by the end of 2018. According to an application with the township, Tesla hopes to build the station at the Wawa on New Road.

There are 1,191 charging locations across the county, with an average of eight charging ports at each location. They're designed to charge a car quickly while the driver is on a long trip, and tend to be placed in areas like grocery stores, malls, and downtown areas, Tesla says on their website.

Tesla cars do not have gas tanks, and run totally on electric energy. They can go between 200-300 miles on a single full charge, the Washington Post reported.

There are currently a number of charging stations throughout the state, including in Jersey City, Hamilton, Tinton Falls and Woodbridge.
