Vikings Put It All Together, Advance in County Tournament

Par Hills took care of higher seeded Kinnelon to move on past the first round of the Morris County Tournament.

Coming into Tuesday's game against Kinnelon in the Morris County Tournament, the baseball team had only won one game–the same amount of losses the Colts had. But in the preliminary round of the tournament, the Vikings were able to put all facets together for a 7-4 victory.

IN SHORT
The Vikings showed early patience at the plate by drawing three walks in the top of the first inning, which in turn led to two early runs to set the tone for the game. Vikings starting pitcher Jimmy Grawher helped maintain that lead as he went 4 1/3 innings while striking out four and allowing just one run, before leaving in the fifth inning due to a shoulder injury. Kinnelon got two runs in the bottom of the fifth after Grawher's exit to cut the Vikings lead to 4-2, but Par Hills responded right back with three runs in the top of the sixth, ignited by Peter Milveski's RBI double. Vikings pitcher Brian Zelasny came on in the bottom of the seventh and closed the game out by striking out two batters to preserve the win.

VIKING OF THE GAME
Peter Milveski—
1-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Milveski was on base all game and got a key two-out RBI double in the top of the sixth to extend the lead for Par Hills.

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Jimmy Grawher (Parsippany Hills), went 4 1/3 innings, allowing only four baserunners and one run while striking out four. Grawher also went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Grawher left with a shoulder injury in the fifth inning, but head coach Ray Santana said he should be fine to make Saturday's start in the second round of the county tournament at Madison on 1 p.m.

THEY SAID IT
"That Kinnelon team is a good team and their pitcher is a good pitcher, but with our schedule we were battled tested and came out today and did what what we needed to do; I'm really proud of them. We have the ability, but we just haven't been able to put all three facets of the game together, hopefully today was a start of that."–Head coach Ray Santana

Up Next—Morris Hills today at 4 p.m. at Morris Hills High School.
