Volunteer Efforts Net Parsippany Teen Key to the City

Korla Marie King received the Presidential Gold Volunteer Service Award, recognition from Parsippany Township.

As if 2014 wasn’t amazing enough, the new year has started off even stronger for Korla Marie King.

The 15-year-old Parsippany Hills High School freshman was recently honored by Mayor James Barberio with a proclamation and a key to the township for all her accomplishments in the past year.

King, an honor roll student and member of the school’s volleyball team, received the Presidential Gold Volunteer Service Award for completing more than 100 hours of volunteer work in a single calendar year.

In addition, King is the reigning Royal International Miss Junior Teen National Title holder and Miss Junior Teen New Jersey. She won both titles in 2014.

King is also involved in her church, Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel, and visits children’s hospitals in New Jersey, raises money for various charities, and supports soldiers overseas.

King most recently joined the F.A.B. Coalition, a group of teens from around New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania who walk the runway in various fashion shows to help fight against bullying.
