The site for Jack's Subs & Dogs at 20 N. Beverwyck Road looks less than appetizing these days.
The Lake Hiawatha restaurant, best known for affordable, no-frills, regular-guy victuals, has been out of business for about five months. That's according to Alex Palazzo, who owns a Livingston men's clothing shop and until recently, owned the building that housed Jack's.
The end of Jack's leaves the neighborhood with an empty brick structure that is now available for rent. (Surely a new tenant would be a morale boost for fellow North Beverwyck retailers including , , and .

Vacancies Update: Two weeks ago, we mused about the future for the old site at the Troy Hills Shopping Center (the eatery now is at its new Arlington Plaza location). Planning Board Secretary Peg Mader confirms that a Smashburger franchise has contracted to rent the space, though the estimated time of its arrival is presently unknown.
