Friday marks the nation's 103rd observance of Veterans Day. Here's what will be open and closed around town.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Friday will mark the nation's 103rd celebration of Veterans Day, honoring those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Parsippany has about 1,000 residents who are veterans, according to U.S. Census data. Census officials also found that the township had 64 veteran-owned businesses as of 2017. You can find some at veteranownedbusiness.com.

No matter how you're celebrating or spending the day, it's important to remember what's closed that day. Here's a look at what will be open and what will close around Parsippany.

Schools

Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Schools will be closed.

Town Hall, Other Township Services

Town Hall will close for Veterans Day. There will be no garbage or recycling pickup, and the recycling center is also closed. See Parsippany's 2022 town planner for the pickup schedule.

Veterans Day

Although Town Hall will be closed, the township will hold a Veterans Day ceremony. The event takes place at 11 a.m. Friday at Veterans Memorial Park (1839 Route 46).

State-Government Agencies

Veterans Day is a state holiday. So New Jersey agencies, including the Motor Vehicle Commission, will be closed.

Morris County Offices

County offices will be closed.

Post Offices

The U.S. Postal Service will be closed. But if you need to ship, you can still do so through FedEx or UPS. Both facilities will keep their retail locations open to accept and deliver packages for customers.

Banks

Most banks, including Chase and Wells Fargo, are closed on Veterans Day, since they fall under the Federal Reserve, which is taking the day off.

Retail, Restaurants, Businesses

Outside of banks, private businesses tend to stay open. Some, especially smaller businesses, may opt to close or change hours for Veterans Day. So make sure you check before you go.
