PARSIPPANY, NJ — Public safety officials are hunkering down for what forecasters are expecting to be a major storm this weekend.

Major impacts, including heavy snow and ice, are expected, the National Weather Service said in a Friday morning briefing.

Township officials are also urging residents to stay off the roads unless it is absolutely necessary this weekend.
The Parsippany Police Department is reminding residents of these ordinances concerning snowfall:
- If you usually park on public roads, please plan ahead. Parking is prohibited on snow covered public streets. If your vehicle is parked on the street, it can be ticketed and towed. L.O. 405-10
- Sidewalks and handicap parking spots, along with the area around fire hydrants on your property, must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of the storm stopping. L.O. 346-1
- Accumulated snow and/or ice on your vehicle must be removed prior to driving. If you fail to do so, the fine ranges from $500 to $1,500 per violation.
Mayor Pulkit Desai is also reminding residents to pay attention to their pipes during this week's cold weather to keep them from freezing.
Residents should keep their water running to avoid pipe freezing. If your pipes are already frozen, it's best to turn off the water before thawing.
Residents should also keep an eye on the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township School District's website for updates on closures and delays come Monday.
