Armed, Off-Duty Cop Causes Concern Outside Parsippany School: Police

Police quickly realized there wasn't a safety issue but encouraged people to continue reporting suspicious activity.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany police came to Northvail Elementary School after a parent reported someone with a gun outside the premises, authorities said Wednesday.

Once police arrived, they quickly determined the armed person was an off-duty cop from another jurisdiction. She wore civilian clothing and accidentally exposed her concealed handgun when she left her vehicle, police said.

Nonetheless, the Parsippany Police Department appreciated the tip.
