$1,000 Scholarship Competition Announced In Point Pleasant

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — High school juniors and seniors from Point Pleasant are invited to apply for the annual New Jersey League of Municipalities scholarship contest.

The annual Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition is a collaboration between New Jersey Mayors and the New Jersey League of Municipalities.

Applicants must write a 500-word essay on the theme "What My Municipal Government Does Best." Etries will be judged solely on originality, appropriateness, proper grammar and punctuation along with clarity of the theme.

Students who are planning to continue their schooling past high school are eligible for the competition, and Point Pleasant residents should submit their entries to Mayor Robert A. Sabosik.

The application form and entry packet have more details. Essays must be submitted to Sabosik's office by March 10.

"I’ve participated in this contest every year I have been mayor and each year, I am amazed at the essays the students in this community submit," Sabosik said. "One year, we had one of the entries make it to the final round and won the contest, standing out above all the other entries from across the State. We have exceptionally bright young students in Point Pleasant and that gives me great hope for the future."

The mayor’s office will review the essays and a semifinalist will be selected and forwarded to the NJ League of Municipalities Scholarship Committee. That committee will select 15 finalists and 3 winners. The winners will each receive a $1,000 scholarship and have their essays published in a future issue of the NJ League of Municipalities Magazine.
