116-Degree Heat Index Possible As NJ Weather About To Get Worse
UPDATE: Just when you thought it was safe to outside again: We're (already) dealing with bad weather once again. Find out where and when.
That ugly weather that's been lingering in New Jersey for days? It's not going away anytime soon.
A hazardous weather outlook and an excessive heat warning have been issued statewide for the next three days as the heat index is supposed to zoom past 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The heat index, which takes the real temperature and humidity into account, is supposed to hit anywhere from 102 to 107 on Friday afternoon. The heat index is supposed to be at its worst at 5 p.m.

Then it will zoom anywhere from 108 to 116 on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. The worst of it is supposed to happen in Ocean County, where the heat index could hit 116 in Toms River. The heat index is supposed to be highest at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Patrick O'Hara, a National Weather Service meterologist, said the real temperatures will be 100 degrees on Saturday and possibly Sunday. With few clouds expected, he said, the sun and humidity will make it feel like 116 degrees.

"A lot of people are going to be inside with the AC on which could strain the power resources," said O'Hara.
Already, the heat index hit 112 degrees in one area of Camden County and 108 in Manasquan on Friday, but it could get hotter than that.
