19 Tickets: Drivers Warned To Stop For Pedestrians In Point Beach

There were two traffic tickets and 17 borough ordinance violations issued in 2 hours as police reminded drivers they must stop.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Point Pleasant Beach police took to the streets in the borough on Friday to remind motorists they are required to stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk.

The pedestrian safety crossing detail was conducted at two sites in the borough, Point Pleasant Beach police said: At the Route 35 and Maryland Avenue crossing and the intersection of Broadway and Chicago Avenue.

Plain-clothes officers and marked patrol units were both used during the detail, and Point Pleasant Beach police officers made numerous motor vehicle stops. The primary violation was failure to stop for pedestrians, police said.

Officers educated motorists and issued 17 borough ordinance violations and two traffic violations during the two-hour operation.

"Motorists are reminded that you MUST STOP for a pedestrian crossing the roadway," police said. "We will continue to enforce pedestrian safety laws and will have additional operations in the future."
