$209K Grant Awarded For Point Pleasant Beach Inlet Lot Improvements

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Point Pleasant Beach is set to receive a grant for $209,750 to address stormwater runoff issues at the inlet parking lot.

The funding is part of $7 million in grants for projects across New Jersey, announced Tuesday by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The grants are set to fund projects "to enhance and modernize local stormwater management practices and infrastructure in the face of worsening impacts from climate change," state officials said.

Many of the projects use green infrastructure technology and natural solutions to mitigate localized flooding and improve the ecological health of waterways, officials said.

In Point Pleasant Beach, the funding will be used to repave the parking lot and build a rain garden to collect and filter the runoff from the parking lot, to help protect local surface water.

The funding for the grants is coming from the state’s Corporate Business Tax and the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund. Grants were prioritized for municipalities with combined sewer systems and/or those that are designated by the DEP as overburdened.
