In 'Adopt A Business', Point Boro Football Seniors Give Back To Town
Rather than seeking donations for the team, the players are giving local businesses a boost.

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — It's that time of year. A new fall season has arrived and lots of youth sports are seeking support.
In Point Pleasant, the seniors on the high school football team have turned that upside down to thank local businesses for what they do to support student activities.
The "Adopt A Business" effort started in 2021, according to the Black and Gold Parents Club, which is the booster club for the football team.

"The outgoing senior players felt asking a business to donate $100 to 'Adopt a Senior' just didn't seem right with all the hardship COVID caused," the group said. In the past, businesses would chip in $100 to adopt a senior and the funds would cover the cost of the senior's jersey, which they got to keep after the season.
With Adopt A Business, each senior picks a business, and those businesses are highlighted on the posters made to cheer on the team as well as the business names being announced repeatedly during every home football game.

The program was so well-received in 2021 that the senior class this fall wanted to continue it, the senior class said.
"The local business community is so generous to the boys, not just during the season, but throughout the year," the parents club said. "These senior players appreciate that and they want to continue to give back."
In addition to the players' choices, the parents club has chosen four businesses to adopt.
