The fire was reported about 2:45 p.m. and Deputy Chief Drew VanDemark arrived and found two homes heavily in flames on Sunrise Avenue at Shady Glen Avenue and live power lines down across the street, officials said.

Chief Charlie Willever soon arrived and upgraded to a third alarm to bring in additional firefighters and resources due to the heavy wind and high heat conditions.

The fire was contained to the two structures and firefighters were on the scene for about 3-1/2 hours, officials said.

The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office and Point Pleasant police are investigating the cause, fire officials said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected," fire officials said.

They thanked the agencies that assisted them:
