POINT PLEASANT, NJ — A Point Pleasant man has been indicted in connection with sharing photos of a foster child that he pulled from video camera footage from the child's bedroom, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

John C. Olson, 44, was indicted Wednesday by an Ocean County grand jury on four counts of manufacturing child sexual abuse material, along with charges of distribution and possession of the material, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Olson is accused of uploading a photo of a nude prepubescent girl on Kik and pretending he was a 10-year-old girl sending the image of herself to another Kik user, authorities said.

Kik officials alerted authorities to the activity and passed along the phone number and email address associated with the account, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case.

Investigators tracked the activity to Olson's home, and a search of his home on Aug. 22, 2025, revealed what appeared to be Ring cameras in the bedrooms that were occupied by foster children, the affidavit said.

When they questioned Olson, he confirmed his phone number and email address, which matched what Kik had reported, the affidavit said.

A forensic search of Olson's phone revealed four photos of a prepubescent girl with her intimate parts exposed, one of them zoomed in on the child's intimate parts, the affidavit said.

It also revealed a Ring app on the phone with cameras named to match the children's bedrooms and four photos taken from the Ring footage of a prepubescent girl, the affidavit said.

The affidavit does not say when authorities learned foster children had been placed in the home, how many children had been fostered there or for how long.

Olson was arrested Aug. 22, 2025, but released on pretrial monitoring on Aug. 29, 2025 under New Jersey bail reform rules.
