Band Competition Season Begins in Brick
High school marching bands to compete Sept. 19 in the first event of the season.
Point Pleasant Borough High School’s Competition Band begins their 2015 season with an event at Brick Memorial High School on Saturday, September 19. The competition begins at 5 p.m. with awards being given at 9 p.m. Point’s band takes the field at 7:20 p.m.
This year, the Boro band will perform Zorro with songs from the movie and a theatrical sword fight. The 80 students began working on their performance in early July and this will be their third public appearance with the first two being at Panther football games. Scott V. Visco, director of bands, instructs the students along with Megan Meier, assistant marching band director and Julia Stamberger, color guard advisor. Senior Ruby Hyra is this year’s drum major.
The competition hosted by USBands puts each school in a specific division based on band size. Point Pleasant competes on Saturday in division IV-A against Toms River East and Allentown High Schools.
