Beach Sweeps To Clean Up Litter Set For Saturday In Ocean County

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — The Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps have been rescheduled to Saturday at beaches up and down the Jersey Shore, including Point Pleasant Beach.

The bi-annual cleanup, originally scheduled for April 1, was moved to this Saturday, April 15, which has a more welcoming forecast of temperatures in the 60s and rain holding off until the afternoon.

The litter collection effort annually picks up thousands of items from plastic bottle caps to sports equipment to an assortment of oddities including a rubber snake and a lawnmower. (Read last year's report here.)

For those needing to record volunteer hours, you can register to volunteer at the select sites that are participating Saturday.

The cleanup runs from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Volunteers should bring gloves and a bucket to pick up trash.

Here are the sites in Ocean County participating in the Beach Sweeps on Saturday:

• Bay Head - Beach House Classic Boardshop (517 Main Ave, Bay Head NJ 08742)
• Island Beach State Park - Bathing Pavilion #1 (Central Ave, Seaside Park, NJ 08752)
• Lavallette - Philadelphia Ave Beach
• Mantoloking - Lyman St Beach (1021 Ocean Ave, Mantoloking, NJ 08738)
• Point Pleasant - Maxson Ave Beach (end of Maxson Ave near Riverfront Park)
• Point Pleasant Beach - Jenkinson's Aquarium on the Boardwalk, and Maryland Avenue beach
• Seaside Heights - Carousel Building at Carteret Ave and Ocean Terrace
• Seaside Park - 2nd Ave Beach (2nd Ave & Boardwalk) and Midway Beach at 6th Lane
• Toms River - Normandy Beach at 6th Ave.
