Cancer Concern Center Hosting Fundraiser at Wharfside Patio Today

Cancer Concern Center plans Summer Kick-Off fundraiser during New Jersey Marathon weekend, when runners will raise funds for the center.

The Cancer Concern Center and musician Mark Burg will present a Summer Kick-Off fundraiser from 4-8 p.m. today at The Wharfside Patio Bar on Channel Drive in Point Pleasant Beach.

Tickets are $25 and will be sold at the door. Included in the fundraiser are live music, a free buffet, and drink specials. The event is family-friendly. All proceeds will benefit the Cancer Concern Center of Point Pleasant Beach.

Since 1998, the Cancer Concern Center, staffed solely by volunteers, has provided local support programs in Point Pleasant Beach for women and men with cancer. Programs include support groups, nutritional counseling, meditation, journaling, yoga, and new wigs, at no mandatory cost.

According to Board Member Heather Keefe, of Point Pleasant, the fundraiser comes at a critical time for the Cancer Concern Center. The center had been planning a dinner dance fundraiser for last November, but the banquet hall canceled the event immediately following Superstorm Sandy.

Thus, the Cancer Concern Center is dependent on the Summer Kick-Off and its runners at the New Jersey Marathon to continue operations in 2013.

The New Jersey Marathon takes place on Sunday. The Cancer Concern Center will have 17 runners participating in the half marathon and half marathon relay in order to raise funds for the center.
