Remember last summer when you went outside to enjoy your backyard on a weekend or after work, only to chased back into the house by a swarm of those pesky little Black and White mosquitoes? Remember wishing there was something you could do yourself to reclaim your Backyard? What if there was a program that assisted Point Pleasant residents in doing that very thing? Well, there’s actually one in the works!

Come learn more on Monday, May 21st at 7pm at Pt. Pleasant Boro Town Hall, 2223 Bridge Ave. As part of the Pt. Pleasant Environmental Commission’s regular monthly meeting, Dr. Brian Johnson from Rutgers University will give a presentation on their program “Citizens Action Through Science: Community Driven Mosquito Control." This is the same program that Dr. Dina Fonseca, of Rutgers University, initiated in Baltimore, Maryland with significant results.

The program requires participants to set out several “GAT” traps to collect any of those small black and white mosquitoes in your yard. The trap requires minimal maintenance and does not require the use of any type of pesticides. Mosquitoes are drawn to the trap by a small amount of water baited with grass clippings that presents itself as a good place to lay their eggs. When they fly in, they are collected by a sticky card inside the trap. Local volunteer organizers will assist you in the proper placement of the traps.

Learn what you can do to” take back” your yard from these winged menaces at the Pt. Pleasant Environmental Commission’s meeting, Monday May 21st at 7pm to. Remember, Mosquito Control Starts at Home and Mosquitoes Will Bite the Hand That Breeds It!
