Trash Collector Pinned By Car On Route 88 In Point Pleasant: Cops

A video showed the aftermath of the crash. The accident closed a portion of the highway, police said.

A trash collector was hurt Tuesday after he was pinned by a car in an accident that closed Route 88 in Point Pleasant Boro, police said.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Roselle Waste Management employee suffered leg injuries when he was hit by a car while collecting trash on Route 88, police said. The accident happened at approximately 5:37 a.m. in the area of 924 Route 88, police said.

After striking the worker, the vehicle struck the rear of the garbage truck, pinning the worker between his vehicle and the garbage truck, police said.

The vehicle that struck the garbage truck was traveling east on Route 88 prior to the crash. The driver, a 28-year-old male from Point Pleasant, suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention, police said.

The victim, a 27-year-old man from Lakewood, was transported via MONOC helicopter to the trauma unit at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in stable condition. The Point Pleasant First Aid and Point Pleasant Fire Department responded to assist in the motor vehicle crash.
