Daniel 'Dog House' Ottmer Of Point Pleasant Dies At 71

Daniel “Dog House” Ottmer, 71, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2015 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

Born in Lakewood to the late Benjamin and Elena Ottmer, he has resided in Point Pleasant for the past 47 years.

Mr. Ottmer started his career at 18 years old, working for Sea Coast Oil Company in Lakewood. After thirty years of work with Sea Coast, Daniel went on to start Animal Health Products, of Lakewood, where he and his son have worked side by side, and have devoted the past 20 years building the business to what it is today.

He was a member of the Elks Club in Point Pleasant Beach, was an avid cyclist, and enjoyed the racetrack. Daniel enjoyed traveling to his second home in Ft. Myers, Florida, and had a new found love of cruises. He loved the Jersey Shore, especially Point Pleasant, and the time spent fishing, walking the boardwalk, and the social life with his local friends. Dog House was a devout lifelong Philadelphia Flyers Hockey fan.

He was preceded in death by his dear brother Paul, and his beloved son Matthew,

Surviving are his loving fiancé, Judy Grady; his loving children, Elizabeth Teixeira and Dan Ottmer and wife Debbie; his dear brother, Tommy Ottmer and wife Nena, brother Bernie Ottmer and wife Bernice; his cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Keirsten, Anthony, and Amanda; beloved nieces and nephews; his fiancé’s sons, Dale and Jamie Gurgo and her parent’s Mary Lou and Ed Horan; his former wife Marie Ottmer-Capozza; and many extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 21 at St. Peter R.C. Church, 406 Forman Avenue, Point Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Daniel’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
