Drugged Drink Claims At Jersey Shore Bar Unfounded, ABC, Police Say

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — A claim that multiple women at Jenkinson's Nightclub were drugged earlier in August has been investigated and is unfounded, authorities said Monday.

A woman who had been a patron at Jenkinson's made a report to Point Pleasant Beach police on Aug. 17 alleging she had been drugged at the bar on Aug. 14, authorities said.

Point Pleasant Beach police and officials with the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control investigated the report, police said.

"The investigation included a comprehensive review of the available evidence, interviews, and coordination between investigators from both agencies," the police department said. "Based on the information obtained during the investigation, the allegations have been determined to be unfounded at this time."

"The Point Pleasant Beach Police Department takes all reports of suspected drink tampering and criminal activity seriously," police said. "Every complaint is thoroughly investigated to ensure the safety of residents and visitors and to maintain public confidence in our local businesses and entertainment venues."

The investigation also followed claims by Jersey Coast Emergency News that multiple women had suffered "seizures and other serious medical episodes at Jenks ... with concerns being raised that their drinks may have been spiked."

Officials told Patch there was a single EMS call to Jenkinson's on Aug. 14 for a seizure.

Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Doug Vitale at the time said the Jersey Coast Emergency News post was inaccurate.

"This is exactly how misinformation spreads," Vitale said. "Serious, unverified allegations were posted as a public safety concern, yet the page later admitted that neither the Police Department nor Jenkinson’s had confirmed the claims and that the information came from messages in their inbox."

"Public safety is too important for rumors and speculation," Vitale said. "Our residents and visitors deserve verified facts, not fear-driven social media posts."

Point Pleasant Beach Police on Monday reminded people that they should always be cautious.

"While this investigation did not substantiate the reported allegations, patrons are reminded to always exercise caution when consuming alcoholic beverages," the police department said. "Individuals should drink responsibly, remain aware of their surroundings, and never leave beverages unattended."

"If anyone believes their drink has been tampered with or they have been the victim of a crime, they are encouraged to immediately notify venue staff and contact law enforcement," the police department said.

"The Point Pleasant Beach Police Department remains committed to working closely with the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, local establishments, and the community to promote a safe and enjoyable environment for all residents and visitors," the department said.
