Dunkin Customer Thwarts Vehicle Theft In Point Pleasant Beach

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — A man walked out of Dunkin Donuts Monday morning to find a man trying to his vehicle, Point Pleasant Beach police said.

The attempted theft at the Dunkin Donuts on Route 35 south was reported at 8:22 a.m., Point Pleasant Beach Police Chief Robert J. Kowalewski said.

The victim told police he had been in Dunkin Donuts and when he came out, there was a man opening the door of his vehicle. As the victim approached, the suspect got into another vehicle that then took off north on Route 35, Kowalewski said.

The vehicle the suspect fled in was reported stolen in Pennsylvania, he said.

"There was no altercation between the victim and the suspect," Kowalewski said., and added the suspects are believed to be from North Jersey.

Brielle police and Monmouth County authorities were alerted to be on the lookout after the suspect fled, and the Ocean County Auto Theft Task Force was alerted as well, he said.
