Eugene J. Harz Of Point Pleasant Beach Dies At 79

Services will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Eugene J. Harz, 79 of Point Pleasant Beach, formerly of Bayonne, died at Riverview Hospital on April 10, 2016.

Gene was a 1955 graduate of St. Peter's High School in Staten Island, NY and a 1969 graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in management and minor in accounting. He worked as a Vice President of Operations for First Savings & Loan in Bayonne, NJ for 43 years.

He served as Commissioner/Chairman of the Hudson County Utility Authority, Board of Directors on the Bayonne Rent Control Board, Board of Directors on the Bayonne Community Mental Health Center Director/Treasurer of Bayonne Boy Scout Council (1969 received its President's Award and in 1987 named Scout's Man of the Year), President of the Holy Family Fathers Club. He also served as director of fundraising for the Bayonne Police Athletic League, Member of Friends of Bayonne P.A.L. and the Nations Conference of Christians and Jews (Chairman in 1986 and Brotherhood Chairman in 1985), Honorary recipient of the Brotherhood Silver Medallion Award in 1987. Member of Bayonne Chamber of Commerce, Bayonne Chapter N.A.A.C.P, Knights of Columbus Council No. 371, Town Center Management Corp., United Way of Hudson County, and Rotary Club.

He was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Claire (Duncan) Harz. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Helen (Lambert) and three daughters Maureen and Jim Ballas of Hazlet, Nancy and Ken Kobylowski of Shrewsbury and Michele Occimio of Aberdeen. Survived by six grandchildren, Maxwell and Nolan Ballas, Alex and Lacey Kobylowski and Samantha and Michael Occimio. Also survived by his sister Aurelie Fritschy of Newtown, PA., brother-in-law Roger Lambert of West Milford, NJ and sister-in-law Lois Mathews of Houston, TX. and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Thursday April 14, 2016 at St. Peter's RC Church, in Point Pleasant Beach. Cremation will be private.

Viewing hours will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30am at Colonial Funeral Home 2170 Hwy 88, Brick, NJ 08724.
