The Ocean County Office of Senior Services is seeking individuals to lead the HealthEASE "Move Today" exercise program.
An exercise-leader training program has been scheduled for two consecutive Tuesdays – Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 at the Anchor House, St. Paul Lutheran Church, at Routes 9 and 166 in Beachwood. To sign-up call the Ocean County Office of Senior Services HealthEASE Coordinator at 1-800-668-4899 or 732-929-2091.
"The Move Today program is an evidenced based program developed by a physical therapist for the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services' HealthEASE Initiative," said Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, Chairman of Senior Services. "Exercise is a great way to improve your health and stay fit. I am encouraging volunteers and health professionals to join the free training. It's a great way to give back to the community."
"Move Today" classes are for seniors 60 and over and are held at sites around the county.
HealthEASE leaders work as a team to co-lead 12-session "Move Today" programs in their local communities. Trainees who complete the training will be certified to teach "Move Today" classes.
"Participants enjoy the benefits of gentle non-aerobic exercise," Vicari said. "HealthEASE ‘Move Today' helps improve flexibility, muscle strength, endurance, posture and balance to help prevent falls. Exercises are done either standing or sitting, and are safe for people with osteoporosis."
"This is a wonderful program for our seniors that are looking for an exercise program that will meet their health needs," said Freeholder Director Gerry P. Little.
To volunteer, join a class, host a program in your community, or just learn more; contact the Ocean County Office of Senior Services HealthEASE Coordinator at 800-668-4899 or 732-929-2091.
