Point Pleasant Library celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Point Pleasant library celebrates Hispanic Heritage MonthThe Point Pleasant Boro branch of the Ocean County Library is offering three programs in October in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month is observed nationally from September 15 to October 15 and celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Ceramics and pottery making have long played an important role in Mexican culture. On Thursday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m., children can celebrate this creative folk art by decorating and painting a traditional Mexican pottery bowl. This program is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.The Alborada Spanish Dance Troupe will perform Sat, October 8 at 2:00 pm. The Alborada Dancers are one of the best Flamenco dance groups in the country.Teens in grades 6 through 12 are invited to participate in the "Dia de Los Muertos" program on Tuesday, October 11 at 3:00 p.m. Teens will learn about "The Day of the Dead," a traditional Mexican holiday, and will decorate sugar skulls , which are used to honor the lives of loved one who have passed away.
