FEBRUARY 10, 2011, POINT PLEASANT, NEW JERSEY— As part of the celebration of Women’s History Month, the Ocean County Library Point Pleasant Borough Branch is hosting a unique six-week author study of local, Point Pleasant resident and colorful character, Adelia Gobel.
Through reading of her six diaries dating from 1901 to 1905, the author study group will take a 6-week time travel back to the turn of the century to explore Point Pleasant in a very unique way. Gobel, while employed as a maid in the home of the town’s Presbyterian minister, Spencer C. Dickson and his wife, Daisy, wrote the diaries which were later transcribed and bound into a book by the Ocean County Historical Society. The Diaries provide an account of the activities in the Dickson home and church; names of local businesses patronized; and insight into Gobel’s thoughts and feelings.
